July 4th is one of my favorite holidays. This year we’re celebrating in small town style with the Sudbury town parade and barbeque / lobster in the backyard with friends.
We enjoyed the Sudbury Parade with the theme “We the People of 01776”. Sudbury enjoys the 01776 zip code. I’m sure the battle over that was fierce.

A quick visit on a cool Saturday afternoon made for a pleasant walk. Even better was the lobster roll at the Lobster Pot, just outside the park in Rockport.
Our backyard in Sudbury, Massachusetts brings a variety of quirky images. Its a delight to live with so much nature.
Here are some images from the partial annular solar eclipse of June 10, 2021, captured from Winthrop, Massachusetts. Being on the water gave us a great view even if we had to get up very early.
There are plenty of birds in the backyard. Here are a few favorites photographed in Sudbury, Massachusetts in the fall of 2016.
The setup isn’t an accident. I put a 6 foot stand behind my first floor office and provided branches to perch on and food to bring them in. Chickadees, white crested nuthatches, cardinals, blue jays, and a tufted titmouse were tempted into posing for food.
The Butterfly Place is a single glass atrium in Westford, Massachusetts, kept warm and humid year-round. There are hundreds of butterflies flying free among the plantings. And they’re big! It’s a rare setup where you can get within inches of species you could never approach outdoors.
If you sit still long enough they’ll land on you, so this became a lesson in patience. But he humidity on a cold lens creates fog, so let your gear warm up before you start.
